Born
in Sümeg, Hungary, Europe, in 1946. Interested in drawings, statues and paintings
at the early age of 7. Possessed with molding clay and drawing. His greatest dream
was to take up the profession as a scultor.
His
father died when Josef was 14 years old. His mother had to raise 6 children on her own. It
was impossible to finance an education to become a sculptor.
In
1960 he began to work at the porcelain manufactory in herend. He worked with exemplary
diligence and learned the craft of porcelain painting. After 10 years he ranked among the
best and his porcelain paintings became an art form.
But
he wanted more. He wanted to paint, not only on porcelain, but on canvas. Landscapes,
nature, the animal kingdom.
The
factory management did not grant his wish to continue his education and overwhelmed him
with work. This brought the company immense success, honors and acclaim at
exhibitions in Vienna, Copenhagen and Bern.
In
1972 he received the BNV price at the international fair in Budapest for an octagonal
Kagoshima vase, in 1976 the great price of the Budapest fair for a 120 cm vase.
He
studied the work of the great hungarian landscape artists. Even his early attemps
were promising, more and more beautiful pictures were to follow.
Painted
his first pictures of animals - a doe with 2 fawns. From that moment on he only painted
nature and all of its faccets - motion, anatomy, the behavior of wild animals. He
sought the company of hunters.
The
exhibion of the first 30 hunting paintings and several porcelain pieces with hunting
scenens in Sopron, Hungary in April 1980 was crowned by success.
